South Bronx United Programming Continuum

YOUTH DEVELOPMENT / TRAVEL SOCCER PROGRAM

130 Boys and Girls, Ages 10-19
South Bronx United works with boys and girls in the youth development program all 12 months of the year. Participating youth train and compete on one of 7 travel soccer teams and attend the after school tutoring program, college prep programming, and the Summer Soccer Scholars program. South Bronx United staff, coaches, and volunteers provide comprehensive supports to ensure youth are succeeding academically and getting prepared for college and careers. Components include:

Travel Soccer
The competitive program gives youth the opportunity to be part of a close-knit team all year round, compete throughout New York city and state, and receive high quality training. Teams are affiliated with the Cosmopolitan Junior Soccer League (CJSL), East New York Youth Soccer Association (ENYYSA), and US Youth Soccer.

After School Tutoring Program
Held every weekday afternoon to assist youth with homework, study skills, test prep, language skills, and overall academic development.  Currently open to all youth in the Travel Program.  Partnership with the International Rescue Committee and the Urban Assembly School for Careers in Sports.

College Prep Program
College Prep activities increase college awareness, improve college preparation, and assist with graduation requirements. Activities include a SAT Preparation course (with Revolution Prep), quarterly college nights, college campus visits, and college prep mentoring. Guidance counseling given to all youth.

Summer Soccer Scholars

Approximately 70 youth participate in a 4-week full day program which includes daily academic and life skills class followed by soccer each afternoon. .

Character Development

Emphasis on youth leadership and service learning.  Teamwork, sportsmanship, and character emphasis through Travel program. Individualized mentoring.

SOCCER SPECIFIC PROGRAMS

Recreational Program
400 youth served
Boys and Girls, Ages 4-16
Open to all children regardless of ability to participate in Fall and Spring seasons, training and games.  Promotes health and wellness through good nutrition and active lifestyles. The program is affiliated with East New York Youth Soccer Association (ENYYSA), and US Youth Soccer.

Developmental Program
Boys and Girls, Ages 4-18
Emphasizes player and character development of children at all levels with special events, clinics, and spring and summer break camps. Past events have included clinics and camps with the New York Red Bulls, U.S. Women's National Team players, Columbia University, Monroe College, and Mexican National Team star Claudio Suarez.

HEALTH AND WELLNESS

Health and Wellness Promotion

Emphasis on good nutrition and active lifestyles to fight obesity includes an organic snack food partnership.  Events to promote family health options and community awareness.
