Andrew So
Executive Director

Prior to co-founding South Bronx United in 2009, Andrew served as a mathematics and special education teacher and administrator at New Day Academy, a public secondary school in the Morrisania neighborhood of the Bronx. He also had supported several New York City public schools and their teachers as a math instructional coach and worked with Bronx youth in other capacities from summer counselor to guidance counselor to athletic coach. He holds a D-level coaching license from the United States Soccer Federation and has coached athletes of various ages and levels. He is an alumnus of the We Are The Bronx Fellowship and the American Express United Way of NYC Leadership Academy and a former trustee of the Cosmopolitan Junior Soccer League and former chair of the Bronx Nonprofit Coalition. Andrew received a B.S. in Symbolic Systems from Stanford University and earned an M.S.Ed. in Middle School General and Special Education from the Bank Street College of Education in New York.

In the 17 years that he has served as Executive Director, the organization has grown into a comprehensive youth development and community nonprofit reaching nearly 2,000 children and young adults annually. South Bronx United’s programs combine academic enrichment, college prep, mentoring, workforce development, immigration legal services, and other youth and family services with soccer. In 2020, he was named Administrator of the Year by the East New York Youth Soccer Association. That year, he also accepted the Laureus Sport for Good Award on behalf of South Bronx United at the Laureus World Sports Awards in Berlin, Germany.
