College & Career Success (Coordinator or Manager)
SCOPE
South Bronx United Inc. (SBU) is a sports-based youth development organization that uses soccer as a tool for social change aiming to help youth build character, teamwork, and leadership so they can succeed in high school, college, careers, their community and beyond. SBU serves more than 1,900 young people annually through programming on the field and in the classroom, working to unite a diverse group of students, families, and the South Bronx community toward positive goals. SBU is driven to accomplish our mission and promote the SBU Values of Showing Commitment, Bringing Integrity, and Uniting our Community in all that we do.
South Bronx United seeks a passionate and dynamic individual to join our team to support the College and Career Success Program in a full-time work. This role will be at either the Coordinator or Manager level depending on experience. This role will manage or coordinator the organization's Workforce Development Program, a six-month career preparedness and employment program for young adults, and work with the College and Career Success Program Director on outreach, support, and mentorship for SBU alumni who are in college or entering careers.
RESPONSIBILITIES
1. Plan and facilitate workshops and programming for the Workforce Development Program.
Facilitate weekly workshops on resume writing, interview skills, job search strategies, and other relevant topics to prepare youth for the workforce.
Teach eight career readiness core competencies: Career & Self-Development, Communication, Critical Thinking, Equity & Inclusion, Leadership, Professionalism, Teamwork, Technology
Maintain clear and consistent communication with community partners and other staff to ensure alignment and support for workforce development participants.
Event Planning: With the assistance of the College and Career Success Program Director, organize career fairs, networking events, and other special events that connect youth with potential employers and mentors.
2. Recruit, mentor, and engage young adults towards career goals
Work directly with 12-15 program participants to assess their career interests, develop individualized career plans, and provide ongoing support and mentorship.
Maintain clear and consistent communication with program participants.
Support and coach them around applying for jobs, navigate the hiring process, and building job skills.
Promote the workforce development program to prospective participants within SBU and outside organizations to ensure robust enrollment and engagement.
Conduct Interviews for program applicants, outreach to references, and host informational interviews and information sessions.
Create and update information materials such as posters, flyers, and information packets.
3. Maintain engagement with SBU Academy Alumni.
Hold a phone call or meeting at least once per semester with alum in the most recent two classes (freshmen and sophomores), as well as certain youth.
Provide appropriate support and referrals for alumni issues as they arise.
Share relevant information on initiatives, scholarships, and other announcements on email, phone, and social media platforms.
4. Provide appropriate support and referrals for alumni issues as they arise.
Coordinate the Career Mentor program including volunteer-mentee matches.
Help alumni find jobs and internships
Refer alums to social worker, counselor, and immigration legal service support.
Provide financial aid assistance or coordinate with Director to provide assistance.
Support alumni who are unable to attend college with continuing education and career development opportunities.
Plan and deliver two alumni events per year.
5. Collect, analyze, and report on program data:
Track program outcomes and attendance and strive towards program targets.
Record all data in Salesforce.
Maintain updated salesforce records for all alumni.
Present reports to Director of College Access and Success and Executive Director.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, & ABILITIES
Candidates should meet the following requirements:
Bachelors Degree
Coursework or work experience related to career prep, workforce development, education, guidance counseling, youth development, or program management.
Effective in multi-cultural and cross-cultural settings and understanding of individuals of all backgrounds.
Excellent interpersonal, mediation, negotiation, and conflict resolution skills.
Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and with a young, developing nonprofit organization.
Flexible and adaptable to work in a variety of settings
Strong administrative, computer, and writing skills.
Familiarity with the South Bronx community or other neighboring communities is preferred.
Spanish and/or French proficiency is a plus.
TIME
Full-time, including one evening worksheet each week (Tuesdays). May require some evening hours.
COMPENSATION & BENEFITS
Expected compensation range is $50,000-$65,000 commensurate with level and experience.
