College Success
The SBU Academy pathway does not end at high school graduation. All alumni continue to receive support from staff members, led by the Director of College Guidance and Alumni and the College Success Coordinator, to succeed in college and careers. Through semi-annual checkins and monthly newsletters, all SBU Academy alumni receive access to consultations and support on academics, internships, job searches, school transfers, financial aid, and more. Periodic career workshops are held thanks to a partnership with Raising the Bar, in addition to an other alumni workshops and networking events.
By request, alums are also matched to a mentor, professionals who volunteer through the College Success Mentorship program (for college freshmen and sophomores) are the Career Mentorship program (for upperclassmen or alums focused on careers or trades).
SBU also hosts Men’s and Women’s Alumni Soccer Teams. The Men’s team has competed in the Cosmopolitan Soccer League D1 and D2 Reserves League through a partnership with Sporting SC. The Women’s Alumni team has competed in the Brooklyn Women’s Super League and the New York Adult Soccer League.
Alumni are also invited to participate in the SBU Coaching Corps, with is also open to older high school students. They can receive a stipend and earn a US Soccer or ENYYSA coaching license, while gaining personalized coaching supports and a practical experience as an assistant coach in an SBU soccer program.
