Development Associate (AmeriCorps VISTA)
SCOPE
South Bronx United (SBU) is seeking enthusiastic and caring individuals with a passion for youth and community development to serve as a Development Associate through the AmeriCorps program. The Development Associate will support SBU with fundraising, grant writing, and community outreach efforts. The Associate’s primary responsibilities will include: assisting with the planning and implementation of the Annual Benefit and other special events and campaigns, assisting with the management of the donor database and donor management systems, communicating directly with individual donors, facilitating community outreach opportunities and events, and collaborating on grant applications. This role will report to the Development Coordinator but also work closely with other staff, including the Director of Individual Giving and Events.
The Associate will join a team that works alongside SBU’s Executive Director to help raise more than $3 million annually. They will assist in crucial capacity building efforts that will enable the organization to continue to grow its size and impact. The individual in this role must be a strong communicator, organized and detail oriented, and passionate about the mission and community. Also, the VISTA will also have the opportunity to learn about the field of nonprofit fundraising more generally and pursue interests in different departments of the organization.
ROLE AND RESPONSIBILITIES
The VISTA at SBU will be part of the 2026-2027 Coach Across America (CAA) VISTA nationwide cohort. The CAA VISTA placed at SBU will increase the financial and in-kind resources received by the organization allowing it to deliver crucial programs and services and an outsized community impact.
The VISTA will:
(1) Implement fundraising activities that support the overall fundraising efforts, growth of revenue, and subsequent increase in organization capacity,
(2) Implement systems to support the growth of the SBU Annual Benefit and other special events,
(3) Administer a data management system to provide critical capacity in data collection and analysis for the organization’s program and development effort,
(4) Support the management of the organization’s grants pipeline,
(5) Engage in community outreach activities and attend community engagement events.
QUALIFICATIONS
• Bachelor’s Degree highly preferred
• Ability to work collaboratively with diverse individuals
• Effective in multi-cultural and cross-cultural settings and understanding of individuals of all backgrounds
• Excellent interpersonal skills
• Ability to work in a fast paced environment and with a developing nonprofit organization
• Flexible and adaptable to work in a variety of settings
• Strong administrative, computer, and writing skills
• Proficiency with email, Google documents, and Microsoft Office
• Punctual and team-oriented
• (Preferred) Experience in youth development
• (Preferred) Experience working with low-income, at-risk, or immigrant communities
SCHEDULE
The term of service runs one year starting from August 10th, 2026 – August 9th, 2027. This is a full-time position.
COMPENSATION
• A living stipend of approximately $30,116 for twelve months (exact amounts according to Corporation for National and Community Service AmeriCorps VISTA rates and the CAA contract)
• Choice between the Segal Education Award ($7,395), which can be used on student loans or future educational expenses, or an end-of-service stipend ($1,800), provided upon successful completion of the 12 month service term
• AmeriCorps Health Benefit Plan
• Unlimited monthly metro card when in-person programming is operating
All HR related matters are handled by the AmeriCorps contractor (CAA).
