Lorena R. Valencia

Lorena is an Emmy-winning Mexican filmmaker whose work explores reproductive rights, identity, and power through poetic, character-driven stories. At South Bronx United, she helps tell stories with and for the community through photography and video. Her passion for sports, especially women athletes, makes SBU a dream job, where she remains committed to supporting underserved communities through soccer, her favorite sport.

Lorena studied at UNAM, making her a proud Pumas supporter, and she is also a dedicated fan of Gotham FC and the New York Liberty. She completed her graduate studies at CCNY, where she wrote, directed, and produced her first fiction short film, Dandelion, which enjoyed a successful festival run worldwide. Her debut documentary short premiered at the New York Latino Film Festival and continues to screen internationally. She is currently developing her debut feature film, Mayahuel, with support from the Cine Qua Non Lab, the IAFFM Creative Production Lab, and the Creative Production Lab in Panama.
