Community Outreach Internship
OVERVIEW
South Bronx United Community Outreach Interns work closely with the Volunteer Recruitment team. The team recruits over 300 volunteers annually dedicated to serving The South Bronx community. The intern will gain experience in volunteer recruitment, placement, community outreach and establishing partnerships as well as attending community events and connecting with the broader community.

Spring Internship: mid/late January – May
Fall Internship: September – December

COMMITMENT
10-15 hours a week for at least a semester.
TRAINING
All interns will receive training from our Volunteer Program Manager.
BENEFITS
While the position is unpaid, interns have the unique opportunity to gain hands-on communications and marketing experience in a supervised setting. Throughout their internship, interns will receive support and formal observations.
RESPONSIBILITIES
Outreach/Organizing – intern will conduct outreach in hopes of recruiting mentors and coaches for South Bronx youth, garnering support around pressing community issues.
• Track and interpret statistics on recruitment and retention
• Interns will draw up a strategic plan for volunteer outreach, recruitment and community partnerships
• Develop consistent practices and communications around targeted recruitment, retention, recognition and volunteer leadership development
• Research effective volunteer training methods, working with staff to strengthen volunteer training, including trainings manuals
• Collaborate with staff to implement effective volunteer orientation and training sessions
• Maintain a database of volunteers, which includes volunteer attendance
QUALIFICATIONS
Enthusiastic and caring with a specific interest in community organizing:
• Has served as a volunteer in some prior capacity
• Ability to work collaboratively with diverse individuals
• Effective in multi-cultural and cross-cultural settings and understanding of individuals of all backgrounds
• Excellent interpersonal skills
• Ability to work in a fast paced environment and with a developing nonprofit organization
• Flexible and adaptable to work in a variety of settings
• Strong administrative, computer, and writing skills
• Proficiency with email, Google documents, and Microsoft Office
• Punctual and team-oriented
