Summer Camp Manager
SCOPE
South Bronx United's mission is to use soccer as a vehicle for social change, helping youth build character, teamwork, and leadership skills so that they can succeed in high school, college, careers, their community and beyond. South Bronx serves 1,300 boys and girls, ages 4 through 19, each year by combining soccer with academic enrichment, college prep, mentoring, leadership development, health and wellness, and legal and support services for immigrant youth.
The Summer Soccer Camp Manager will oversee the SBU Soccer Summer Camp, a day camp serving Bronx youth in 1st - 6th grades. The primary tasks for the Camp Manager will be to supervise program youth and coaches, set weekly practice plans, train and support junior coaches, manage uniform distribution, ensure attendance is taken and input, follow up with absent youth, create the structure/groups for campers, and lead coaching sessions (where needed-junior coaches will run sessions as well). The Manager should have head coaching and management experience. The Manager will report to the Director of Soccer Programs and work closely with the Soccer Operations Coordinator, Summer Operations Associate, summer coaches, and interns.
RESPONSIBILITIES
The Manager’s responsibilities include:
Reviewing existing camp curriculum and working with the Director and staff to implement sessions and revise as needed.
Attend and support in the training of summer coaches.
Supervise program youth during all sessions.
Supervise coaches and junior staff and support in their development.
Manage equipment and uniforms, including setup, distribution, and proper storage.
Manage program enrollment, including setting youth groupings, ensuring attendance is completed and entered online accurately, communicating with absent youth and their family members, and ensuring youth are picked up by an assigned caregiver.
Leading soccer sessions for large and small groups on a daily basis.
QUALIFICATIONS
Previous experience as a head coach.
Previous experience working with youth (ideally this includes having worked with younger kids in the 6-10 year old range).
An understanding of positive coaching principles (and sports based youth development generally) and the desire to reinforce the values that sport helps develop (teamwork, discipline, respect, empathy, etc).
Some previous experience supervising staff, coaches, volunteers, or interns.
SCHEDULE/LOCATION
Training: Monday-Friday 9:00am-12:30pm; June 27 - July 1 (The rest of day can be spent doing prep for start of the camp)
Program: Monday-Friday, 8:00am-4:00pm; July 5 - August 12
