Volunteer Programs Manager
SCOPE
South Bronx United (SBU) is a sports-based youth development organization that uses soccer as a tool for social change. SBU’s mission is to prepare youth to succeed in high school, college, careers, their community and beyond. SBU serves more than 1,800 young people annually through programming on the field and in the classroom.
Every year, more than 300 volunteers make SBU’s programs and work possible. Individuals volunteer in areas including academics, soccer, mentoring, immigrant services, development, communications, and special events. SBU’s Volunteer Program Manager works collaboratively with all program and department staff in recruiting, training, managing, and tracking volunteers, while building partnerships and strengthening systems to make volunteer recruitment and management sustainable. This is a great opportunity to work with a group of incredible volunteers! Candidates should be personable on the phone, in-person, and in writing and extremely organized and detail-oriented.
RESPONSIBILITIES
The Program Manager’s responsibilities will include the following:
1. Recruitment of volunteers for organization’s programs and activities
Ensure that all volunteer positions are posted accurately and frequently on various platforms
Attend volunteer fairs and other recruitment events
Build and maintain partnerships with colleges, high schools, and other institutions to cultivate potential volunteers
Build the SBU Volunteer Ambassador program on local college campuses
2. Screen, interview, and place candidates in volunteer positions.
Utilize FormTitan and Salesforce to review volunteer applicants.
Utilize Salesforce to track volunteer applicants through the screening, interview, and placement process
Work with the Volunteer Associate to ensure volunteer applicants are screened and interviewed within target timelines
Collaborate with organization staff to place viable volunteer candidates in volunteer positions
3. Manage a full time Americorps member and oversee management of volunteers across the organization
Collaborate with program staff to implement effective volunteer orientation and training sessions, including training manuals
Strengthen systems of feedback and ongoing training for volunteers
Monthly site visits to all programs to support volunteers at their sites of service
Provide ongoing professional support, encouragement, and recognition for volunteers through their term of service
Plan and implement volunteer appreciation and engagement events.
Develop consistent practices and communications around targeted recruitment, retention, recognition and volunteer leadership development
4. Collect, monitor, and analyze data in relation to volunteer practices
Maintain the database of volunteers, which includes volunteer attendance
Track and interpret statistics on recruitment and retention
Provide regular volunteer recruitment, conversion, retention, and attendance data to organization leadership
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
The Program Manager should meet the following requirements:
Bachelor’s Degree
Effective in multi-cultural and cross-cultural settings and understanding of individuals of all backgrounds.
Excellent interpersonal, mediation, negotiation, and conflict resolution skills.
Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and with a young, developing nonprofit organization.
Flexible and adaptable to work in a variety of settings
Strong administrative, computer, and writing skills.
Familiarity with the South Bronx community or other neighboring communities is preferred.
Spanish and/or French proficiency is a plus.
TIME
Full-time, requires some evening and weekend hours.
Monday-Friday, 10:00am-6:00pm
Once a month on Saturdays.
COMPENSATION & BENEFITS
Expected compensation range is $50,000-$55,000 commensurate with experience.
