Workforce Development Program Associate

OVERVIEW
South Bronx United (SBU) is a nonprofit organization that uses soccer as a tool for social change. Our mission is to help youth in the South Bronx achieve success in high school, college, careers, and beyond. Through a combination of athletic and educational programs, SBU aims to improve the overall well-being of our community. 

Program Overview: SBU's Workforce Development Program is designed to empower youth with the skills, knowledge, and opportunities needed to thrive in the workforce. The program includes career exploration, job readiness training, internships, mentorship, and professional development opportunities. 

Position Summary: The Workforce Development Program Associate will be responsible for planning, implementing, and evaluating the workforce development initiatives at South Bronx United. This role requires a dynamic individual who can connect with youth, build relationships with community partners, and develop programs that align with SBU’s mission.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Program Development and Implementation

  • Execute workforce development bi-annual program, including weekly job readiness workshops, job placements, and career exploration activities. 

  • Maintain clear and consistent email and text communication with program participants, community partners, and other staff to ensure alignment and support for workforce development participants. 

  • Teach eight career readiness core competencies: Career & Self-Development, Communication, Critical Thinking, Equity & Inclusion, Leadership, Professionalism, Teamwork, Technology 

Youth Engagement:

  • Work directly with 12-15 program participants to assess their career interests, develop individualized career plans, and provide ongoing support and mentorship. 

  • Manage a caseload of participants, support and coach them around applying for jobs, and navigate the hiring process.

  • Provide feedback on participant resumes, cover letters, job applications, and skills. 

Workshops and Training:

  • Facilitate weekly workshops on resume writing, interview skills, job search strategies, and other relevant topics to prepare youth for the workforce.

Data Management and Reporting: 

  • Track program outcomes and attendance.

  • Maintain accurate records on Salesforce and evaluate the effectiveness of workforce development initiatives. 

Outreach and Recruitment: 

  • Promote the workforce development program to prospective participants within SBU and outside organizations to ensure robust enrollment and engagement.

  • Conduct Interviews for program applicants, outreach to references, and host informational interviews and information sessions.

  • Create and update information materials such as posters, flyers, and information packets. 

Event Planning:

  • With the assistance of the College and Career Success Program Director, organize career fairs, networking events, and other special events that connect youth with potential employers and mentors. 

Partnership Management:

  • Establish and maintain relationships with local businesses, educational institutions, and community organizations to create opportunities for internships, job placements, and career exploration.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Strong understanding of workforce development principles, including job readiness training and career counseling. 

  • Energetic and engaging presentation delivery, capturing and maintaining audience attention. 

  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to connect with youth and community partners. 

  • Proven organizational and project management skills, with the ability to handle multiple tasks and meet deadlines. 

  • Experience in data management and program evaluation. 

  • Commitment to SBU’s mission and values, with a passion for working with diverse, underserved communities.

PREFERRED CREDENTIALS

  • Bachelor’s degree in education, social work, human resources, or a related field.

  • Bilingual in English and Spanish. 

  • Familiarity with the South Bronx community and its resources.

SCHEDULE
Approximately 20 hours per week, typically afternoons and evenings.
