South Bronx United partners with NJ/NY Gotham FC for Common Goal’s Play Proud Initiative
South Bronx United has partnered with NJ/NY Gotham FC and the club’s official supporters’ group Cloud 9 as participants in Common Goal’s “Play Proud” initiative—an LGBTQ+ and Diversity, Equity and Inclusion educational program. Play Proud will provide participating clubs and organizations with training, resources, and support to help them enhance inclusive policies and practices within their organizations. Play Proud offers a holistic and collective approach to creating inclusive soccer communities with a focus on under-resourced and marginalized populations.
SBU’s Social Work Program Manager Danielle King traveled last month with Gotham FC’s Corinne Counsell and Cloud 9’s Melissa Correa to Seattle for the first of two week-long trainings. Throughout 2023, South Bronx United will collaborate with Gotham FC and Cloud 9 on inclusive activations, including Pride Night, which takes place on Sunday, June 4 when Gotham FC hosts San Diego Wave FC at Red Bull Arena.
The Play Proud program is part of Common Goal's wider efforts to use soccer as a tool for social change.
